Obituary for
Mary Coatsworth (Wheesk)
Mary Madeline Wheesk Coatsworth, dearly beloved wife of Richard Ross Coatsworth, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, in Attawapiskat, Ontario, at the age of 90. Mary was born to Antoine and Charlotte Wheesk on April 5, 1933, near Attawapiskat, Ontario. She was the eldest of 10 children and was highly educated in wilderness life. Mary and Richard Coatsworth were married on November 21, 1962, in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and settled in Toronto. Throughout her professional life, she was employed in childcare, dietary aid at Sunnybrook Hospital, hotel housekeeping, and cafeteria service at St. Michael’s College School. She loved to talk with her family on the telephone, play bingo, knit beautiful socks, and travel. She visited Europe, Belize, and many places in the United States. She and Richard conducted tours for friends to see Catholic sacred places of Quebec. In retirement, she found great joy in sending many parcels of personally knit items, clothing, and dried goods to her family in Attawapiskat. These parcels provided comfort to her wide circle of family members; Richard has called her the Angel of James Bay. She loved her husband, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and they loved her greatly. She was especially close to her niece Pauline Wheesk Hornyak and her nephew Norbert Koostachin. She leaves behind her husband, Richard R. Coatsworth; four siblings, Agnes Boddy (late Stanley), Ignace Wheesk (Bertha), Remi Wheesk, and Stella Okimaw (Greg); and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her parents Antoine and Charlotte Wheesk, and siblings Bernadette Shisheesh, Onisin Wheesk, Thomas Wheesk, Evelyn Herbert, and Alice Koostachin. A service and burial will take place in Attawapiskat. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
