Obituary for
Doreen Roy (Sadites)
It’s with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the passing away of our mom Doreen, on the 23rd of August. Though our mother lived a quiet life, she was loved by those whose lives she touched. This was no more evident than the deep love she shared with her devoted husband, and our father, Gerald. She spent time in Montreal as a young woman with her sister Joan, fulfilling her dedication to preaching about her faith prior to returning to Timmins and falling in love with Gerald and starting her family. You could not discuss one without the other as they were inseparable. Having shared over 60 years of life together, they focused their love and attention on us their sons Robin and Scott, who they endeavored to teach by being living examples of love, compassion, generosity and kindness. She was not only a mother to her two boys, but numerous young men and women who would come into her life. One in particular stood out for mom, and though technically it was through marriage, mom ended up with the daughter she never had in Hannah. Hannah and mom loved each other deeply and she was a relief for Doreen as she was a beautiful balance in having to deal with her two sons.We had many brothers and sisters as our mom and dad had adopted many, and they were always treated with the same love and affection and cared for as we were. When difficulties befell those of Doreen’s community, she would spend hours creating meals to help support those in their times of distress and Gerald would in turn deliver both the meals and their love and kindness they shared with those in need. Though Doreen had difficulties with her health throughout her life, it never stopped her from discussing her strong religious beliefs and sharing them with those around her who would listen. Besides those beliefs, she was a source of wisdom to those who were in need and spent many hours comforting those in pain. Family was of utmost importance to her, and her mother Lottie, though small in stature, loomed large in Doreen’s life as they shared a close connection throughout our grandmother’s life. She had a unique and special bond with each of her siblings Joan, Richard, Arthur and Lynn. Though over the years her brothers and sisters would move away from Timmins to various parts of Canada, she remained in close contact with all of them. This pattern would follow with the numerous friends she and Gerald collected over the years as they created great bonds with others of their faith. This bond with her friends and community would remain for both her and Gerald to their final days. It was only upon her passing that we realized the impact she had as well on the community at the Golden Manor. Many of the staff, management, and residents came forth to express the great loss that they felt upon her passing…she is deeply loved and will be missed by many. We love you mom… As per Doreen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Donations to Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
