IANNUZZELLI, Irene (nee Shalanko) (February 14, 1927 – August 19, 2023) – Passed peacefully at the age of 96 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years Joseph Iannuzzelli (February 7, 2014). She will be sadly missed by her children Anthony (Susan) Iannuzzelli, Lori (Samuel) Kanes, Joseph ‘Joe’ (Andrea) Iannuzzelli and her grandchildren Anthony and Joseph Iannuzzelli, David and Kristen S.J. Kanes and Brooke Iannuzzelli (Jeffrey Dill) and her great-grandchild Joseph Henry Iannuzzelli. Predeceased by her loving parents John and Anna Shalanko and her siblings Neela Norman, Diane Elenko, Ruth Campisano, Kay Fortney, Jack Shalanko, Marie Wiersma, Leonard Shalanko, Daniel Shalanka and Vera Shalanko. Survived by her two sisters Elnora Semeniuk and Louise (John) Newborough, and by her many nieces and nephews on the Shalanko side. Also survived by Rosemarie Chamberlain and her children Kathy and Albert and their families, Susan Iannuzzelli, Dr. Vito (Tonia) DelVecchio and Josephine (Julio) Cavaliere. Irene was a graduate of Stamford Collegiate and received her BA in Psychology from Brock University. She taught primary school for over 30 years for the Welland County Separate School Board largely at Holy Family, St. Patrick’s and Notre Dame Schools. She received her specialist certificate in Art and later in her teaching career, taught art for grades 1 through 8. She was an accomplished artist in her own right, participating in many juried art shows. In her later years, she published a children’s book ‘The Loving Sounds of the Farm’ written by herself and illustrated with her own art work. Irene was born in Consort, Alberta and her father John was a farmer before moving his family to Queenston, Ontario after the Great Depression. Irene also became a member of the Catholic Women’s League for St. Thomas More Church for a brief time. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Thursday August 24, 2023 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held at 8 pm at the funeral home. A private family Rite of Committal will take place Friday at Fairview Cemetery.
