Write a Tribute
Kenneth Robert “Robbie” Hogue
May 19, 1961 – August 8, 2023
Kenneth Robert “Robbie” Hogue lost his battle with cancer on August8, 2023. “One of the few fights he lost in his life.”
He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories, hilarious sense of humour and passion for life.
Robbie was born on May 19, 1961 to Kenneth Hogue and Diane Hogue (Watson) in Port Arthur, Ontario. They moved to Chilliwack along with his “little” sister Lauri Ann in 1968 where his life of sports began. He played soccer, lacrosse, baseball to name a few but his love of hockey was where he stood out. He was stick boy for the Chilliwack Chiefs and then played for the Junior Jets in his later years. Rob continued his hockey career when he moved to Fort MacMurray in 1978 were he was known as Ken or “Hoguey”. He played on several slow pitch teams that at one point took him to Niagara Falls for playoffs. He was a diehard Oilers fan thru the Gretzky years to McDavid era where he got to meet the players last April after a Stanley Cup playoff game.
Rob took great pride in his four sons, Kenneth (H-Bomb), Robert & Steve (Prairie Baseball College
Academy), and Brandon (who followed his dads footsteps playing rep hockey) Rob worked hard all his life as a Red Seal Industrial painter/sandblaster for 35 years in Ft. Mac and continued to BC for another 7. In September 2022 his working years came to a forced retirement due to a cancer diagnosis.
Rob’s all-encompassing enthusiasm for life was legendary. He was loved and known for his sense
of humour (R rated), his incredible generosity and beautiful smile. He was a best friend to all walks
of life.
No matter the circumstances, you would always leave with a story of something funny, crazy or
reliving the past.
Rob’s love for music, be it going to concerts, singing Karaoke , playing drums or just dancing to the
beat, was in his blood.
Rob is survived by his partner Kathy, sons Kenneth, Steven and Brandon. His mother Diane, sister
Lauri Ann and niece Launa (Paul), his step dad Chris Watson. His grandchildren Jaxson, Isabelle,
Shanelle, Nathan, Camilla, Kiara, Maximus and Bentley.
Rob is now at peace joining his father, son Rob Jr and aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends who
have gone before him.
What a heck of a reunion but in Rob’s case “party”.
For us left behind, Rob taught us to live everyday as a gift and in the lyrics of Trooper, “We’re here for a Good time, not a long time”
Celebration of life is being held September 17, 2023 at the Chilliwack Curling Club, 1:00pm.
In honour of Robbie, please wear your favourite sports jersey (hockey, baseball, golf shirt, music
T-shirt)
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Abbottsford Regional Cancer Hospital,
Chilliwack General Hospital (2North and 5 South), SN Transport.
And to Dr. Martin Dodds and his wife Tracy, who’s kindness and compassion never went unnoticed
especially in their pool. Thank you.
