Obituary
Pieter Hendrik Vandenburg was taken into Glory on Thursday, August 10, 2023, just two hours shy of his 82nd birthday. His was a long, well fought medical journey that he travelled with perseverance and always in dignity, knowing that he was a child of our Heavenly Father. Yet, the illness that took him was short and swift. He was the dearly loved husband of Tina (nee Borgdorff), and the father of John (Deanna), Dan (Lori), and Ben (Lynette). Proud Opa of ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Henk Borgdorff (Gerda), sisters-in-law Margaret Tigchelaar (Ɨ Jack), Janet Borgdorff (Ɨ Peter), many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Predeceased by his brothers Gerrit (Dikje) and Jan (Joan), and his sister Jozina (Rijn). Special thanks and love to Marian Vandenburg for always helping in Oom Piet’s life, because there was always something happening, mostly in the medical realm.
Pieter was diagnosed as a young adult with chronic kidney disease. He endured dialysis treatments prior to receiving a kidney transplant in 1988. In 2010 he was told that his kidney was failing, so back on dialysis until another kidney could be found. This gift was granted him just before his 70th birthday, 11 years ago, and this gift of life for him was still working very well the day he died. Piet journeyed though these many years valiantly, never complaining, never giving up hope for a better tomorrow, and always trusting in his Lord to see him through the next challenge.
Just hours before he made his last trip to St.Joseph’s Hospital, he said to his wife, “I am tired of this world, Jesus said that in His house are many mansions (John 14:2a), and I am ready when He is willing to take me in.” The following evening after a long day, the Lord gently carried him home. Praise God.
Visitation will be held at KITCHING STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Tuesday August 15, 2023 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at CALVIN CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 420 Hwy 5 W, Dundas on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. Private interment will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery prior to the service.
If desired, in memory of Piet, donations to the Kidney Foundation or St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (Nephrology) would be appreciated by the family.
