It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of our father, Robert Bruce Davis, of Regina, SK, on July 25, 2023. We sadly said goodbye to him in ICU at the University Hospital in Edmonton, AB, after a failed liver transplant surgery turned our hopes and dreams to this time of grief and sadness.
Robert Bruce Davis was born May 25, 1960 in Regina, SK, and was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Paine Davis, George (Reil) Davis, and his sister, Shirley Anne O’Fee. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved children, Denita (Shelby) Dawn Davis, Scott (Marie) Riel Bruce Davis, Carey Robert Davis, Johnathan Tyler Davis, and Bobby Lawrence; his grandchildren, Sara Verch, Braiden Verch and Baily Pio; his siblings, Arlene McKenzie, Verna (Brian) Janz; his nieces and nephews; Tami (Ed) Janz-Sargees, Brian Janz Jr., Krissy McKenzie, Janine (Kelly) McKenzie, great nieces and nephews, Libbi (Andy) Roed, Jobe (Kailee) Sargees, Darby(Jacob) Janz, Nikita Janz, great-great nephews Kyan McKenzie Ljunggren, Sayer Davis Ljunggren, and great-great nieces Sativa Rain Sargees and Silvy Sargees.
Robert Bruce Davis was always ‘Bruce’ to family growing up, but in his adult and business life he used his first name ‘Rob’. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle and friend. He was born and educated in Regina and worked most of his life as a long-haul semi driver. He was employed for the last ten years with 18 Wheels Training Services as a driving instructor, both in the classroom and on the road. He will be greatly missed by his employer, colleagues and students.
The legacy Bruce (Rob) leaves is one of strength, kindness and calm. He cared deeply for his late Mother, both emotionally and physically. He was by her side every day as her health declined, and she was transferred to long term care and hospice. After his mom’s passing, and the passing of Shirl’s husband, Lorne, he cared for his sister with the same love and respect. Bruce (Rob) cared for her yard, did her errands, helped with her son, David, and was by her bedside when she passed in September of 2020. Bruce (Rob) did not have an easy life, but he worked hard and did not complain. He found joy when he was able to spend time with his children. His son, Scott, had plans for him to retire to AB to live with him and be closer to family. This was something Bruce (Rob) would have loved. Dee had plans to one day just ‘grab Dad and take him on a little trip’ something else he would have loved. Undoubtedly, Bruce (Rob) would have loved to have had more time with his younger sons, Carey and Johnathan as well. It hurts our hearts that this was not possible. Bruce (Rob) found quiet joy in the little things, like being the uncle that found the noisiest toy, and brought the biggest wrapped box. He loved to BBQ burgers for family and laughed big when his mom could still down a whole burger in her 90s. That was a good memory for Bruce (Rob). We remember him cooking chili and cabbage rolls. He made chili for Scott on his short break between hospital admissions. We remember his lifetime love of music. He loved the old-style rock of Burton Cummings, The Eagles, Blue Rodeo, and other 60s bands. Bruce (Rob) travelled to concerts with his children, or with friends, and could sing every lyric of his favorite songs. ‘Take it to the Limit’, a favorite by the Eagles, was playing on his bed the day we said goodbye.
A private family viewing was held at Park Place Funeral Chapel in Sherwood Park, AB on Monday, July 31st, 2023 prior to cremation. At his request, his ashes will be scattered by his children. A Celebration of Bruce’s (Rob’s) life, will be held in Regina, SK at a later date.
Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that showed care and compassion for our father in ICU in Regina, SK and in Critical Care ICU in Edmonton Alberta, and to all who have reached out with messages of comfort, condolences and donations to the fundraiser.
“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: He believed in me.”
