Allen’s Obituary
Allen Roger Cottreau, affectionately known as Snoopy, 66, Upper Wedgeport, Yarmouth County, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side in the early hours of August 7, 2023 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born October 22, 1956, Yarmouth, he was the eldest son of the late Raymond and Eleanor (Pothier) Cottreau.
He will be sorely missed by all those he leaves behind. A caring father, he is survived by his children, Kelly Cottreau (Hank Purdy), Sandford; Jennifer Cottreau (Chris Sabine), Carleton; Braden Cottreau, Wedgeport, and Brody Cottreau (Chloe Deveau), Wedgeport. He was also dearly loved by his five grandchildren, Sarah, Meghan, Ava, Jack, Beau, and his great grandchild, Kendrick. He is survived by siblings Gordon Cottreau, Yarmouth; Frank Cottreau (Jody), Yarmouth; Greg Cottreau, Wedgeport; Gail d’Entremont (Kenny), Wedgeport; Peggy Newell (Wade), Plymouth; and Bonnie Shand (Landon), East Pubnico.
Devoted to his family, Allen was especially fond of his grandchildren. Humble, hardworking, and skilled with his hands, he was always ready to help anyone who needed it, even if meant giving the shirt off his own back. At the age of 15, Allen began offshore scallop fishing where he toiled for more than 30 years. In 1997, he became a Marine Engineer Officer, working over 10 years on the Oceanex container ship, which took him to England, Spain, Amsterdam, and Gibraltar to name just a few.
As per Allen’s wishes, there will be no viewing. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date, details of which will be posted here.
