It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Margaret Stewart (Walsh) on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Joan was born in Hastings, Ontario on March 9, 1935 and was the fourth of five children. She married William (Bill) Stewart on July 16th, 1960 and went on to have 7 children of her own. Joan was best known for her quick wit and sarcastic sense of humour, sometimes with no filter. She always made time for her 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and was ready to whip out the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies to make them with whatever little one was around or pull out a deck of cards for a game of euchre or crazy eights. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and celebrated with a card, an email or a call. She enjoyed camping, boating, travelling, and playing the organ for her local church, Our Lady of the Visitation. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Bill, her daughters Christine Quaile (Gord), Carol (Rick Takamatsu), and Kimberley and her sons Donald (Luiza), Glenn (Laura), Timothy (Julie), and Shawn (Tracy), her grandchildren Lee, Greg, Stephanie, Taylor, Ryan, Ethan, Liam, Samantha, Alexa and Sienna, and her great grandchildren Austin, Fletcher, Brady, Oaklyn, Ben, and Ayva and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Josephine and David Walsh, her sisters Anne Condon (Clare), Cathy Donohue (Dennis), Mary Alexander (Joseph), her brother Jack (Joan) and her grandson Jonathan Quaile. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Visitation Church, 5338 Bank St. on Monday August 14 at 11 am. In Lieu of flowers donations made to the Ottawa Mission, 35 Waller St, Ottawa, ON K1N 7G4 or the Arthur Sommer Rotenberg Suicide & Depression Studies Program (asrlife.ca) St. Michael’s Hospital, 193 Yonge Street, 6th Floor, Toronto, ON.
