John Arthur (Jack) Knapp
1940 ~ 2023
Jack Knapp was born in Cold Lake, Alberta, to Austin and Hilda Knapp on August 4, 1940, at the John Neil Hospital, and passed away on August 2, 2023, at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre, at the age of 82 years.
He was raised in Cold Lake his entire childhood, until he left for school in Edmonton in 1958 at the tender age of 17 years old. In 1960, he married his long-term sweetheart, Patricia Lund, and together they raised four children, living in different communities around Alberta until settling in Wetaskiwin in 1972.
Jack spent his entire career in the hospital setting, starting as an X-Ray technician in 1960, and retiring as the director of Material Management in 1995. His focus in life was always directed towards his family and meeting their needs. Their home was filled with love and laughter, with Jack usually at the center of the laughter and the beginning of the love. His uncanny ability to fix almost anything kept the kids in safe and reliable bicycles, and later in cars. His love of visiting and his compassion for people built a strong network of lifelong friends.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Austin and Hilda; his in-laws, Albert and Marjorie Lund; dear daughter, Debra Louise Pawlowski; brothers-in-law, Albert Lund, Norman Lund, Larry Lund, Clyde Palmer, and sister-in-law, Leona May.
He leaves behind the love of his life, and wife of 63 years, Patricia; sons, Darrell (Ruth) and John (Cheryl); daughter, Pamela (Mike); 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Orrin (Sharon) Knapp; sister, Francis (Ron) Lynch; brothers-in-law, Grant (Janet) Lund and Gary May; sisters-in-law, Rita Palmer, Kathy Lund and Betty Lund; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church (4910 Northmount Drive, Wetaskiwin, Alberta).
