Valerie Ida Johnson (née Wheatley) passed away at Lakeland Long Term Care in Parry Sound on Sunday July 30th, 2023, surrounded by her family. Age 76 years.
Beloved wife of Mike Johnson for 57 years. Loving mother of Debbie Johnson, Janice Groves (Rob), Trudy Higgins (Sean). Cherished ‘Grama’ of Michael, Jordynn, Taylor, Tyler and Shane. Daughter of the late Bertha Pawis and Donald Wheatley, and ‘Mother Chamberlain’. Dear sister of Sandra King (Ernie), Clarence Wheatley (Elizabeth) the late Cecil (Louise), Lorne (Audrey) Sidney “Mack”, Violet, George “Sock”, Robert “Bob”, Lila, Betty-Ann, Garth, Donald and Reggie. Sister-in-law to Anthony “Tony” Margaret “Maggie”, and the late Barbara, John and Isadore “Izzy”. Val will be missed and fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and fur babies.
Valerie was born in Parry Sound and moved to the Greater Toronto Area. She was a very dedicated and hard-working woman with a strong work ethic. Valerie worked at The Region of Peel, and at the Shawanaga First Nation Band Office. Upon retiring as Executive secretary/membership clerk she still enjoyed volunteering on her First Nation where she lived.
In her youth, Valerie played baseball, volleyball and sang in the choir. In her later years, Valerie loved spending time with her family and her pets, reading, swimming, playing board games, and bowling. She also enjoyed shopping, movies and her favourite TV shows.
Rest in Peace dear Mother/Grama. You are now reunited with your soulmate of 57 years, for eternity. You were adored and you will be missed every day. Until we meet again.
Friends and family will be received at the Logan Funeral Home (705-746-5855), 81 James Street, Parry Sound, on Wednesday, August 9th from 12:30 – 1:30 P.M.
A Service in Celebration of Valerie’s Life will take place in the Logan Memorial Chapel on her birthday, Wednesday, August 9th at 1:30 P.M., with reception and food to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Alzheimer Society Muskoka would be appreciated.
