Daryl William Allen
June 23, 1957 — July 24, 2023
Daryl William Allen, of Miramichi, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 66.
Born in Miramichi, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Rosemary (Taylor) Allen. He was the owner of Castle Sheet Metal.
Daryl is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his daughter Codie Allen Wolinsky (Gabe) of Ottawa, ON and grandson Billy; sisters Joan Watling and Gail Thompson of Miramichi; and four brothers David, Michael, Tommy, and Ricky, all of Miramichi; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition, many of Daryl’s co-workers and friends were like family to him, including Vicky Hare who worked with Daryl for 50 years.
Besides his parents, Daryl was predeceased by his brother Jackie Allen.
Growing up as one of eight children was not always easy, but Daryl learned quickly how to fend for himself. He was often jokingly referred to as “Silent Yokum” by his father, as Daryl would quietly fill his belly at mealtimes while the rest of the Allen kids were chatting and arguing around the dinner table. Daryl displayed his athleticism on the ballfield where he spent many days and nights as a young man. His kind, easygoing nature afforded him a large, wonderful group of friends, most of whom still refer to Daryl by his nickname “Squirrel” to this day.
Daryl worked for many years at Castle Machine Works under the direction of his father until he ventured out on his own with Castle Sheet Metal. He was an exceptionally hard worker but he played equally as hard and when not at home or work Daryl was at the camp – spring, summer, winter, and fall. He created a lifetime of memories laughing and singing with his beloved camp friends. But above all of his adventures and success, Daryl’s greatest accomplishment was his daughter Codie. She was the light and greatest love of his life. There are many stories of their lives together, but most did not know that Daryl and Codie signed up as members of the casino in Moncton in order to enjoy the buffet meals at a discount. And when Codie grew up and her paths lead her to Ontario, Daryl would brave the long drive to visit her because he would not get on an airplane. Throughout her life, Daryl made a special point to send cards to Codie for every occasion, treasures from her father that she will now have for a lifetime. In 2020, Daryl was promoted to Grampie when his grandson Billy was born. He loved to video chat with Billy, and enjoyed buying him toys with wheels, and whenever possible Daryl would take Billy for a ride in “Grampie’s big truck.” Being a grandfather brought great joy to his life.
Daryl was a quiet man who lived a simple life but he made an unforgettable mark on the hearts of those around him. He was a dedicated son, a loving brother, a kind uncle, a loyal friend, and a selfless father and grandfather. He will be forever missed.
A reception and gathering to share memories of Daryl’s life, will begin at 11 am, on Monday, July 31, 2023, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Miramichi Cemetery.
