Sherrill Ireton
Sherrill Ireton was compassionate, nurturing, generous and passed on her traits and many talents to her kids and grandchildren. On July 5, just 10 weeks after her diagnosis, acute myeloid leukemia swiftly and shockingly took Sherrill from Allan, her husband of 55 years. Sherrill was born in Perth, Ont. on February 5, 1945 and it was there she won public speaking contests, spent time with cousins at Otty Lake and eventually met Allan at high school. They spent most of their years in the Kemptville area, where Sherrill worked as a Registered Nurse for decades at Kemptville District Hospital. For more than 40 years she was part of the Beta Sigma Phi sisterhood. She and Allan raised their family on their vast, rural property with her much adored neighbours, gardens and family pets. Sherrill was a mentor, councillor and best friend to her daughter Julie (Pete Wightman) and was at Julie’s side for the birth of both her grandchildren Nate and Maggie. For Derek (Jodie Sloan) Sherrill was a call in from the shop for lunch or a reminder to put a helmet on and slow down. She couldn’t have been more thrilled to become Nanny to Keaton and Hudson. Whether it was at home on Bedell Road, on the Upper Rideau, or in Lakeland, Fla., Sherrill was a chef, a poet and a planner. She loved happy hour at the Oar House and big gatherings featuring her meticulously organized buffets.
She was a huge, important presence in our lives and will always be with us.
Visitation on Friday July 7: 2-4 pm, 6-8 pm at the Kemptville Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry at 805 Prescott St., Kemptville, Ont. Funeral Service on Saturday July 8, 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 319 Prescott Street, Kemptville. Reception immediately afterward across the street at St. John’s United Church fellowship hall.

Our sincere condolences to Al and family at this sad time. We knew Sherrill from our winter time in Woodbrook Estates in Lakeland. Always loved our conversations when we’d see them on our walks around the neighborhood.
