GAUTHIER, Joseph Paul
December 3, 1955 – June 29, 2023
Joe slipped peacefully away at the Bonnechere Manor with the soothing sounds of a drum circle and chanting in the background. He was 67 years old.
He was surrounded by immediate family and leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Shelley. He was the father of Lisa (Adam Blimkie) and the stepfather of Shannon (Sean Kelly) and Arden (Daniel Cloutier) and proud grandfather of Olivia, Brody and Flynn. Joe is survived by 9 brothers and sisters.
Everyone in Renfrew seemed to know Joe and he could often be seen walking up the main street. He had a quick smile for anyone and loved to talk, especially about his favourite topic, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
His whole adult life was dedicated to volunteering. He served on Horton Municipal Council, chaired the Renfrew and Area Seniors Home Support, was Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and Lions Governor of District A4. He was particularly proud of his work as Chair of the Lumber Baron festival and was the first person responsible for having a midway on the main street during the festival.
But…nothing made Joe happier than when he could be Santa. This Christmas would have been his 50th year. When he grew his white beard and put on that red suit, his excitement matched those generations of children for whom lifelong memories of meeting Santa were made.
There will be a huge hole in the fabric of Renfrew…Joe will be missed.
To say Thank You seems like an understatement. Pastor Norine Gullons, Dr Pinard and the staff of Bonnechere Manor, Dr Forfar, Loving Bear Drummers Renfrew, incredible neighbours and special friends and family who will be forever in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall and cremation has taken place.
Joe’s final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in the fall.
