It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ricardo Enrique Cabrera, who left us at the age of 76, on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington.
Ricardo was born in Chincha Alta, Peru, the youngest of 12 siblings. From a young age he worked hard to achieve the goals he set out to accomplish. As a young husband and father, he tried to make a home for his family in San Francisco. He returned briefly to Peru only to seek a better life for himself and his family in Canada. Ricardo loved living in Canada, and he was particularly proud to celebrate his 50th year in the country in 2022. At the same time, he remained fiercely proud of being Peruvian and he loved preparing and feasting on his many favourite dishes.
Ricardo is survived by his wife, Maria, of 57 years, daughter Monica (Brian), and son Jaime (Susan). He was the proud and loving grandfather to Justin, Eric, Sierra, and Andrew. Ricardo also leaves behind his closest nephews, Alex, Jose, and Alfonso as well as other loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members in Peru, Canada, USA, and other countries. As the last surviving sibling in the family, his passing is particularly sad for his many nieces and nephews who loved and admired him.
Ricardo will be remembered as a positive, happy, kind, funny, and loving man, who most enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He had a witty sense of humour and he loved to watch sports especially soccer. No matter which sport he was watching, he was legendary for always cheering for the winning team!
Friends may visit with the family at the Kitching Steepe & Ludwig Funeral Home, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown, Ontario on Tuesday, July 4th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 5th at 11 a.m. Private interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
