Obituary
Deanna Cleave
July 9, 1941 – June 21, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deanna Joyce Cleave on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, peacefully at her home in Georgetown.
Born on July 9, 1941 in Brampton, Ontario, she was the eldest daughter of Russell and Bertha McKechnie who resided in the Britannia area of Mississauga.
Following graduation from Brampton High School, Deanna immediately began her career at Prudential Life Insurance in Toronto. In 1961, she married Don Cleave and together they started their life at Cleave View Farms in Huttonville, sharing 45 years of marriage and raising their four children.
Deanna is survived by her sons, Brian, David (Sara Lynn) and Paul Cleave; fondly known as “Grandma D.” to her adoring grandchildren, Allison, Shea, Beth and Sophie Cleave.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald W. Cleave (2006) and her beloved daughter, Brenda Elizabeth Cleave (2009).
Cherished sister of Linda Livingston and sister-in-law of David Livingston of Caledon; the late Helen and Bill Anderson and the late Marilyn and Jim Buck, formerly all of Georgetown.
She will fondly be remembered by her nieces and nephews and many life-long friends.
Deanna’s life was enriched by the friendships she and Don shared with close friends and neighbours in the Huttonville, Norval, Georgetown and Ayr communities, as well as their colleagues in the Agricultural fraternity across Ontario.
Many happy times were spent with her friends attending social outings with PROBUS, enjoying productions at the theatre and day trips to St. Jacobs and other small Ontario towns which always included a stop for treats at Sittler’s Bakery.
Deanna enjoyed significant accomplishments in business and was well-respected by her peers. She had an exceptional business mind and enjoyed looking after the logistical side of Cleave View Farms.
Deanna was always the first to help others – whether it be preparing food for a neighbour in need, canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society, helping to organize bus tours for the Norval UCW or baking pies for the Church BBQ. Deanna was also known for sending a thoughtful, well-written card or gift of thanks or a special note of congratulations. She took pleasure in helping others; however, her primary focus was always her dedication to her family.
We wish to thank all of the individuals that have provided support to Deanna and our family as we navigated these last few months of her life. In particular, we would like to thank Acclaim Health and the team of Jericho, Jas, Rupi and Marzenna, as well as her personal evening companion, Lizza, who all provided her with excellent care over these last few months.
A private family interment will be held at Roseville Mennonite Cemetery in Ayr.
A reception will be held to honour Deanna’s life on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Terrace on the Green – 8672 Mississauga Rd., Brampton. Friends and family are welcome.
For those who wish, donations to either Bethell Hospice Foundation or Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills would be greatly appreciated.
