Obituary of Carolyn Thompson
Carolyn Jean Thompson aged 74 passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou, NS.
Carolyn was born in New Glasgow, NS on September 10, 1948, a daughter of Gordon and Evelyn Thompson. In her early years, Carolyn resided on Brookside Ave., New Glasgow and later moved with her family to Church St., Westville, NS and attended Westville Schools. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, attended Sunday School and Girl Guides and was a Member of the Order of Eastern Star, Westville Chapter #24 now a member of Ceilidh Chapter #10. Carolyn had always been an avid reader and had her own Library of books. Over the years, she especially loved the many family outings, vacations and family celebrations both in Westville and at her grandparent’s farm in Lorne, NS. Carolyn could always be found with a cat curled up on her lap and a book in her hand.
When Carolyn was just an infant, she was diagnosed with Grand Mal Epilepsy and although she suffered greatly with this life altering condition she never complained and bravely carried on with her life. In later years upon the death of her adored mother, she entered the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou where she resided for 27 years until her passing. This became Carolyn’s second home and family. In the early years she was involved in and enjoyed the many activities, outings and social events at the Home. Carolyn is the last resident to have lived in the both the old Maritime Oddfellow’s Home and the new Home. Our deepest appreciation and thankfulness to the many past and current staff who so lovingly took care of Carolyn.
