Obituary of Aidin Elizabeth McAdam
You are our sunshine. It is with shattered hearts we say goodbye to our Aidin. She passed away by suicide on June 3, 2023. She was supposed to do so many things and tried hard to stay with us but couldn’t. She had plans for the future. Aidin was born November 10, 2003, and while only 19 years old, had a far-reaching and positive impact on many. A special bright light we will carry in our hearts forever, cherishing the time we had together.
As a UNB student, she was involved in the Student Mental Health Association, Townhouse, and Red Shirting. She was excited to be a Black Shirt in September for Orientation as she loved being around people. Fiercely loyal to her friends and loving them dearly, she was so thankful to have them in her life and for the support they gave. For them, we are eternally grateful.
She was community-minded, giving her time easily, being heavily involved in the Fredericton Fastpitch world through volunteering, playing, and coaching. She loved coaching “her team”, wanting them to have a positive experience and love the game as much as she did. Team bonding and supporting each other were always at the top of her list.
Aidin was the least competitive player ever. People who knew her will understand this. Many times, her team was the envy of the other teams as they celebrated the game with so much enthusiasm (in particular, the losses, which most of the time puzzled the winners). She supported her friends enthusiastically across the board, home teams, and rivals in all sports. She was there for everyone.
She loved spending time with younger kids in the “neighborhood”, and with little ones in her other families. She had many “other” families she shared herself with. If you’re thinking, “oh, other family, that’s us”, yes that’s you.
We will forever remember her with a sunglasses tan and her ball cap. She had quite the collection. We will remember her in her hoodies and khakis and her love of a really nice suit. She wanted to have a closet full. We will remember her favourite meal of roast beef with mashed potatoes, corn (preferably canned), broccoli, and of course, gravy, and lots of it. We will remember her bright eyes full of life, her big smile and even bigger heart. Over the years, we received letters from teachers describing her as a special human being. She received cards from neighbours who were so grateful that she spent time with them when they were dying. They knew she was special too.
We have so many wonderful memories, time spent with family, trips in the van, passing the road time with sisters singing (loudly). Enjoying extended family meals at the table, laughing, arguing, both (all loudly). Getting some help with homework (yes, loudly). She won every fight she ever had with her father using a wrestling sleeper move (Go-to-sleep! Go-to-sleep!), or “jerseying” him, or mocking him in a deep voice.
She brought light and humour everywhere. Even those injured by her razor-sharp wit smiled in appreciation of it. We will miss every quirky bit of her. Laughter and joy seemed inevitable around her wherever she went. It doesn’t seem fair to people who hadn’t met her yet.
She will be dearly missed by her family, incredible network of friends from school, the FFA, the campground, pretty much anyone who ever met her.
Left behind to try to make sense of her loss are dad and mom, John and Diane (Leslie) McAdam; sisters Sydney (Mathew) Gatto and Reagan McAdam; grandmother, Esther (Morrison) Leslie; uncle Gary (Kristy) Leslie; aunt Linda (Norman) Tremblay; uncle David McAdam; and cousins Tyler Leslie, Jennifer, and Debbie Tremblay. She also left behind so many special friends and her beloved puppy, Tucker. We’ll take care of him Aidin.
Aidin was predeceased by her by her paternal grandparents, Leslie and Betty (Lewis) McAdam; maternal grandfather (Pepe), Gordon Leslie; and her second-in-line grandfather (Ralphie), Ralph Miller, both of whom were so very special to her.
Rest easy our sweet girl. We’ll see you again…
A celebration of Aidin’s life will be taking place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, June 15th, 2023, from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. The family has asked for attendee’s to please bring any special memories or stories of their time with Aidin to share at the celebration.
