Brenda is survived by her son Tony Baker (Hillary Mason), two granddaughters Bella and Luna, step grandson Royal, brother Lloyd (Jeannie), nieces Julie, Jocelyn, Heather, Kerry, nephews Les, Paul, Evan and many friends. She also has a brother Ward. She was predeceased by her parents George and Gladys Baker, siblings Georgina, Kent and Mona and niece Jennifer.
Brenda was born and raised in Hamiota, Manitoba near her Grandma (Violet) Nicholls. She moved to Winnipeg in October, 1961 with her family when she was eleven. She attended Earl Grey school, Kelvin Highschool and Red River Community College. She worked at a few different temporary jobs before settling into her career with the provincial government, where she worked for 34 years in administration, retiring in 2008. She was an active member of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church and a member of the Circle 1 group. Brenda enjoyed baking; making cookies were a favourite and she also did some catering on the side.
Brenda also volunteered with St.Matthews Maryland Community Ministry and would attend United Church annual conferences selling pins for Homes for Hope. Brenda also attended the 45th United Church Women’s (UCW) national conference in Corner Brook, Newfoundland representing the Manitoba UCW. She attended other UCW functions including the 50th anniversary conference.
She enjoyed trips to various places, initially with her parents and sister to B.C., Alberta and Florida. Later trips included numerous U.S destinations, a cruise, Alaska; and her cousin Shirley and good friend Merry Jane were frequent travel companions. She also took her grandma Nicholls to England to fulfill a long-held dream. For the last 8 years Brenda lived in Summerland Apartments and became part of the family of residents. Her favourite part of living at “the block” was always having someone to play a game with; she enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, learning bridge, and socializing in the coffee room. She would join in gatherings and potlucks and there was always a party for her (and Canada) on her birthday.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church 525 Wardlaw Ave, Winnipeg, MB at 1:00pm. Interment will take place at a later date.
