Mr. Edward Maynard of Nanton, Alberta passed away at the Claresholm Hospital on June 2, 2023. Ed, son of Mark and Edith Maynard was born in Markham, Ontario, brother to Norm (Sandra), Jim (Nellie), Doug, and Joan (Mike). Ed was husband and life partner of Lynne Maynard, father of Bill (Jenn) of Ottawa, Katie (Warren) MacKinnon of Edmonton and Doug of Nanton; grandfather of Steve of Fernie, Katherine (Darren) and Tawna MacKinnon of Edmonton, and Matthew, Andrew, Charlie and Maggie Maynard of Ottawa. Prior to moving west, Ed was a bridge maintenance supervisor for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario. Ed, Lynne and their three children arrived in Nanton on November 26, 1976, from Stroud, Ontario to purchase The Nanton News, which they owned from March 1, 1977 to October 31, 1986, four months short of 10 years. From 1987 to 1991 Ed was the General Manager of the Nanton Truck Stop followed by managing the T-Stop Restaurant in 1991. Ed had a keen interest in politics and enjoyed cooking, baking, Blue Jays baseball and had a green thumb with flowers. His cream puffs were a favourite at the church bake sales, and his flowers were frequently complemented by passerby’s. Ed also assisted Lynne with animal care at the Nanton Animal Protection Society.
