Our dear, sweet mother, Paula Marie (Thorbourne) Freeman, of Halifax, passed away at home. Born on September 20, 1948, in Liverpool, she was the youngest daughter of the late Harry “Bud” and Audrey (Kaulback) Thorbourne.
Paula graduated from Liverpool Regional High School in 1966 with her secretarial diploma and started her career at Bowater Mersey Paper Company. She would then go on to work at the Municipality of Queens followed by many great years as one of the school secretaries at L.R.H.S. When her immediate family relocated to Windsor in 1987, Paula enjoyed a brief time at Martock and King’s-Edgehill before settling into some of her best years at NSCC Hants Campus in 1989 and then Bell Road Campus in 1996, from where she would later retire in 2009.
When Paula moved to Halifax she became very involved in her church. At St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, she found purpose and comfort within her church community acting as treasurer, helping with events and serving on the altar guild.
Mum made many treasured friendships over the years at each place she worked, as well as church, aquafit classes and her daily Tim Horton’s stop. She always had funny stories and memories to share. You were all so special to her.
Paula is survived by her children, Mark Freeman and Margo (Rob) Frost; along with her beloved grandchildren, Lily and Malcolm Frost and Nixon Freeman; siblings, Wayne (Mable) Thorbourne and Linda Thorbourne (Marilyn Malone); sister-in-law, Wanda Thorbourne; brother-in-law, Dick Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Andrea Thorbourne; brother, Larry Thorbourne; sisters-in-law, Claudette Thorbourne and Joan Smith and former husband, Roger Freeman.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317).
