Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on Friday, May 26th, 2023, Bernard Francis Fewer (Ben) in his 78th year, of Chapel’s Cove.
Predeceased by his parents; Agnes and Bernard, beloved sister, Elizabeth (Everett), mother and father-in-law; Mary and Martin Myers, brother-in-law, Marty Myers and sisters-in-law; Kay Walsh-White, Rosaline Walsh and Anna Mae Myers.
Left with loving memories are his wife of 55 years, Lena, sons; Brian (Daisy; daughter Kiera) and Sean (Anne Marie), daughter Lorianne (Zach) and his three precious grandchildren whom he thoroughly adored; Braedon, Peyton and Clara. Special cousins; Michael (Rosann) Furey, Brian (Patsy) Furey, Brenda Burke and their families. Also leaving to mourn sisters-in-law; Martina Williams (Leo), Loretta Gillingham (Wilmour), Maude Gushue (Dick), Maureen Hickey (Val), Jean Hannon and Patricia Myers, brothers-in-law; Patrick Myers and Jerry Walsh. Many nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends, especially Viola St. Croix, as well as his previous co-workers at Ultramar Ltd. and North Atlantic Refinery Ltd.
Ben was a strong community person, serving as Deputy Mayor for Harbour Main, Chapel’s Cove and Lakeview as well as a councillor for many years. He served his parish as a member of the parish council as well as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Bishop O’Neil Council and was still a member of the Knights of Columbus Blessed Trinity Council 6792. Ben enjoyed having a yarn; was known for his quick wit and outspoken personality.
We would like to thank Dr. Russell Lake and Carolann Lake and their staff for their continued care to Ben over the course of his illness. Also, a special thanks to the ICU staff and 4 South A nurses and doctors who cared for Ben during the final days of his battle.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 from 2 pm – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm. Funeral will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 with Mass of Christian Burial from Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main with cremation to follow.
