John George William Thew
March 1, 1946 -May 21, 2023
It is with great sadness that our family would like to announce John’s passing
suddenly on May 21st after a short battle with cancer at the age of 77. He passed at home with his wife Bonnie of 44 years at his side.
Cherished father of Amanda Thew & Michael Thew (Tearsaw) Grandfather to Liam, Elisabeth, Lexus, Logan, Felecia, Faith, Farah, and Fayln. Remembered by his sister Qwen Millet and predeceased by his sister Rosemary Barrow & his father John & mother Rose. He was an uncle to many nieces & nephews and their children.
John was born & raised in Colgan, Ontario, and later in Tottenham, Ontario. He
started working as an Auto Body Repairman at the Tottenham Garage but over the years had also worked in fencing and as a heavy-duty mechanic in the oil fields of Alberta returning to Ontario when his father was quite ill.
John lived in Thunder Bay for 2 years and was married to Bonnie in the United
Church there returning to Gravenhurst, Ontario, and purchasing his first home.
He then purchased a home in Bracebridge in 1986 on Fraserburg Road where he passed. He will be sadly missed by neighbors and friends along the road.
His hobbies were playing spider solitary, going for his car rides in the area, listening to Bonnie singing, and of course the grandkids.
His sense of humor and storytelling will be missed and his knowledge of old
vehicles. He will be joined in heaven by his dog Bigfoot, his daughter’s horse
Chico & the family pet Max.
As John would say “Have a cold beer on me” and remember the good times.
According to John’s wishes, he will be cremated and placed with his mother & father in Tottenham.
A celebration of life is planned in the next few weeks and his wife will post the date and time on Facebook at that time.
