Willis passed away at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital surrounded by love. Born at home on a farm in Somerset March 19th to Evelyn and Ira Eisner and predeceased by both.
He walked across a pasture and attended a one room school house for his education. Joined the Air Force in 1952 and remained until 1974 when he took a job with Air Canada in Montreal retiring in 1993. He worked his career as an airframe mechanic. The love of his life was born and raised on a farm 1.5 miles from him but attended a different school. While home on leave they ran into each other and the rest is history. Married April 2/1955. A marriage unmatched. Posted to Cold Lake, Alberta where they had 2 daughters. Next posted to France for 4 years where they lost a daughter and a son was born. Final posting to Summerside where another son was born and here they stayed for 11 years until releasing from the military and moving to Montreal. Worked for Air Canada for 20 years and once retired moved home to their beloved Nova Scotia and has lived in Bedford/Halifax since. A proud military man and a true Canadian, he loved his country immensely. He was a member of the Legion often selling poppies and never missed a Remembrance Day ceremony. He had many hobbies which included playing hockey till age 50 and coaching kids hockey for 22 years. He was the biggest hockey fan and he watched every game he could in person or on TV no matter what the division. His favourite player by far was Mr. hockey, Gordie Howe and for many years his team was Detroit. He also played baseball and loved golf of which he played well into his 80s. He was involved with Air Cadets in Montreal and was CO of a Squadron for 3 years. He loved radio control planes and built and subsequently crashed approximately 30 of them, sometimes with the help of his sons. He was president of the West Island model Aeronautics club. A lover of all things animal except snakes of which he was afraid. You know a few snake jokes were played on him. He had many fish ponds and loved his Kois until he accidentally killed them, he cried. Yes he had a sensitive side. Was a great gardener and boy could he keep a nice lawn, like a golf course. He loved country music and played guitar along with his harmonica. Loved to dance and could jive to beat the band.
Jack of all trades and not afraid to work or learn how to fix just about anything. Took many courses including TV and radio repair. Taught driving lessons and loved cars, had too many to count. Great sense of humour, quick witted and fun loving as just about anyone would tell you. Many laughs over the years were had by all that encountered him. Very social, loved talking to everyone especially women whom he has utmost respect for. He spent every morning for years meeting a crew at Tim Hortons for coffee and chats. Always getting involved in something for example on the condo board in his building for a bit. A cousin said he was the happiest, kindest person she knew and many would agree with that. Another said his energy was fun to be around.
He taught Pauline how to cook and for years he would cook his secret recipe chicken every Sunday. Many trips were taken by him and Pauline but by far the best was in 2014 when they took their kids and spouses to Europe for 17 days. What a time that was, memories forever. He often said I don’t have an ache or a pain and he didn’t, how lucky was he. A devoted family man, always there for his kids and grandchildren of which he loved immensely and was so proud of them all. He had a never wavering love for Pauline whom he adored and never a day went by without complimenting and kissing her. A true love story which was admired by all who knew them and an inspiration to many. He truly was one of a kind and will be missed forever.
Predeceased by his daughter Wendy at 13 months and brother LLoyd.
Survived by wife Pauline. Daughter Pamela(Richard)Gallant Halifax, Sons Brian(Edwina)Bedford and Craig(Jen) Gatineau.
