Helen enjoyed her life and spent many years living in New Hamburg, Stratford, Bayfield, Maxville, and Goderich with a large circle of caring friends. For many winters she also enjoyed being a Snowbird living on the Gulf Coast in Florida. Helen spent over 25 years as a school bus driver where she drove many of the country kids to school in all kinds of weather. More than anything Helen loved to travel and was very fortunate to visit many parts of the world. She was especially thrilled to meet Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at a private invite to Rideau Hall in Ottawa. She was an avid knitter and generously gave away many pairs of slippers, afghans and dish towels. Helen was known quite famously to have a green thumb and her love of plants was admired by many. Her favourite times were spent with friends and family visiting and she was never short of a joke or song. She was very well known for her “one liners” which those close to her knew very well.
Helen was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #8 in Stratford and always looked forward to attending the meat draws. She was an active member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg.
She will be deeply missed and loved by all who knew her.
A private family service will be held with burial in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th Line. Relatives and friends are invited to a “Celebration of Life Visitation” at the New Hamburg Royal Canadian Legion Branch #532, 65 Boullee St., New Hamburg on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 4 – 7 pm.
