Catherine Louise McGinnis (nee Lacaille), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated social worker, has peacefully passed away at her home in Lottie Lake, Alberta, in St. Paul County. Born on January 24, 1946, in Embarras Portage, Alberta, Catherine was surrounded by the natural beauty of the Athabasca River during her childhood.
Catherine is survived by her loving husband, Larry McGinnis, who stood by her side throughout their journey together. She leaves behind a legacy of family and love, cherished by her brother Frank; her sister Mary Jaebin; and daughters: Rosita Evans and Sandra (Patrick) Vos; her son Maurice Evans (Michelle Grant); her step-son Dale (Elvia) McGinnis, and a host of grandchildren: Caden, Alicia, Tara Lee, Selena, Nicole, Peter, Dawson, Rachel, Markus, Mary and Skylar; as well her four beloved great-grandchildren: Sage, Anastasia, Luke and Ava.
During her life, Catherine dedicated herself to helping others. She worked tirelessly as a social worker, a probation officer, and even as a guard at a youth prison. Catherine had a special affinity for working with children and youth, always aimi9ng to make a positive impact in their lives. Her compassionate nature and nurturing spirit touched the lives of many.
Catherine had a deep connection with nature and found solace in the great outdoors. She loved immersing herself in the beauty of the bush, finding joy in being at one with nature. Fearlessly, she would check her trap line alone, unafraid of the wildlife that surrounded her. Her love for story telling was well-known, and she embraced the nickname “Chatty Cathy”. She had an uncanny ability to captivate her audience with her tales, making every gathering a memorable experience.
The colour pink held a special place in Catherine’s heart, reflecting her vibrant and lively personality. She reveled in the warmth of campfires and treasured the simple joy of being in the outdoors. Her zest for life was infectious, and she left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Catherine Louise McGinnis was predeceased by her parents: Agathe and Solomon Lacaille; her brothers: Emile, Jim, Herb, Sol; her sisters: Vitalise Flett, Irene Saunderson and Edna Wellman; and her daughter: Mary. Their spirits, along with Catherine’s, will forever live on in the memories and hearts of those who loved her.
As we mourn Catherine’s passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared. Her compassionate nature, love for nature, and storytelling prowess will be deeply missed. May her spirit continue to inspire us all and embrace life’s adventures, cherish our loved ones, and find solace in the beauty of the world around us.
Rest in peace dear Catherine. Your legacy of love and compassion will endure for generations to come.
