Marcus Johnathan Westerveld

Marcus meaning “warlike” or warrior describes our son and brother in every way. He fought many battles in his life and against many odds, he conquered most. He was a warrior even until his final breath.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our son and brother, Marcus Johnathan Westerveld after fighting a fast and aggressive form of Esophagus Cancer. His final days were spent in hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Marcus was the eldest son of the Westerveld clan and learned early on that it was his role to keep the shenanigans and nonsense of his younger siblings at bay. Although, on occasion he may have had some participation.
Marc was an extremely driven and a hard working individual. Serving as a construction worker for many local companies through the years. Recently leading his peers in projects for Amico and many side jobs to occupy his nights and weekends along the way as well.
Ever since Marcus was a young boy, the great outdoors was a huge part of his story from travelling, boating, golfing and many exciting adventures along the way. He had a love for sports and you could be sure to find him tuned in watching the hockey game either on his own or with his nephews. Marcus gave life his all in everything he did and in every way. He leaves behind some large construction boots to fill.

Loving brother to Rebecca Hayward of Chatham, ON, Rachel (Brad) Trout of Cape Town, South Africa, Matthew (Jenna) Westerveld of Blenheim, ON, and Ruth-Anna (Greg) Homewood of Chatham, ON. He is predeceased by his brother, Luke Westerveld of Calgary, Alberta. Father of Rielly Marcus.
Hero to his nephews Nathan, Jeremy, Reuben and Jacob Hayward, Eben Trout, Noah Homewood, and nieces Charis Trout, and Lilyan Homewood.
Remembered fondly by Oma (Johanna Hendrika) Westerveld of Iona Station, ON.
Predeceased by Opa (John) Westerveld, and Pake (Clarence) and Beppe (Betty) Miedema of Alymer/St. Thomas, ON and his brother-in-law Robert Hayward of Chatham, ON.
Also remembered and loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Evangel Community Church, 76 Sandys Street, Chatham, ON. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Marcus’ service streamed live on the day of the service. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice.
