Obituary
It is with fond and loving memories, the family announce the death of Mary Ann (Stone) Graham which occurred May 12, 2023 at the Western Health Palliative Care Centre, Corner Brook, NL. Mary was born March 10, 1928, in Curling to the late William Joseph (b Henley Harbour) and Clara Emily (Horwood, b Carbonear) Stone.
Mary was educated at Curling Memorial School, Arvida High School in Quebec, and Anglican Women’s Training College in Toronto. She worked as a governess; a missionary with the Bishop’s Messengers and with Sunday School by Post in Manitoba and Saskatchewan; a teacher in Gaspe; and as head resident at Grenfell College in Corner Brook. Over the years and in the various communities where she lived, Mary volunteered with Sunday schools, Girl Guides Canada, Scouts Canada, Home and School, Canadian Girls in Training, Victorian Order of Nurses, organizations that help differently-abled people, and Canada Winter Games. She was an associate member of the Sisters of St. John the Divine for 72 years; and was cast member of the 2003-04 reality television series Quest for the Sea (Frantic Films production).
Mary loved walking, skiing, fishing, beach-combing, and collecting rocks, shells and driftwood. Most of all, she loved her family and a large list of those whom she welcomed as family.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. D. Percy Graham, brother Donald Stone, sister Ruth Candow, sisters-in-law Shirley Graham, Hilda Stone; brothers-in-law Gordon Candow and George Pike. Mary is survived by her sister Hilda Pike; children Monica (Martin); Gregory (Anne), Christopher (Cathy), and Michael (Kay); grandchildren Maryann, Joseph, Donald, Noah, Jonas, Ebon, Johann, Erin, Robert, Keith, Jennifer, Sarah, David; great-grandchildren Leah, Kalia, Morel, Meera, Dinesh, Alessa, Eddie, Allie, Henry, Zelda; much-loved nieces, nephews, and their families; and a wide circle of friends including her dear friend Nelda Malloy.
The funeral service will take place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Curling, on Monday May 15th 2023 at 1pm with Rev. Cynthia Haynes-Turner officiating, with interment of ashes at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations in Mary Ann’s honour can be made to St. Mary’s Church or a charity of one’s choice.
