Obituary
James “Jim” Atkinson, 66, of Lutes Mountain, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of the late Harold and Joan (nee Alexander) Atkinson.
Jim retired from Simcoe Oil, having worked for many years in Ft. McMurray, AB. He was very involved in bettering the community around him through involvement with the Shriners and Masons. He loved to help people and enjoyed seeing how those efforts improved the lives of those around him. He had a love for motorcycles and riding, and rebuilding cars and trucks bringing them back to their original state of excellence.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Oreila Atkinson (nee Payne); brother, Peter Atkinson (Wanda); sister, Ruth Parks (Neil); and between the Payne and Atkinson families he had a lot of surviving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate and Honour Jim’s life will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Amherst Cemetery.
In memory of Jim, memorial contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Lutes Mountain Church of the Nazarene would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on the Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook Page or at
