Obituary
Karan Wood, 54 of Main River, NB, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023 at The George Dumont Hospital after a brief but fierce battle. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of Susan L Ulrich and the late Richard M Ulrich.
Karan graduated from Bernice McNaughton High School in 1986. She received her Public Relations Degree from Humber University and her MBA from The University of Moncton.
Karan worked for United Parcel Service for 20 years and was the Director of Customer Service for the Americas Region until her retirement in 2014.
Karan had a heart of gold and did so much for so many. She was passionate about giving back, whether it was giving to her many charities or finding the perfect gift at the perfect time and never would ask for anything in return. Throughout her life she rescued many dogs that would have otherwise never had a chance. We would always say “they won the dog lottery with Karan”. After her retirement from UPS in 2014 she kept busy in her craft room and enjoying living her best life on the river with Rene and her dogs, and always surrounded by her “Girl Gang”.
Karan was a caring and inspiring leader. Her light shined bright. She was the type of person who believed in others even when they didn’t always believe in themselves. She was the most thoughtful and generous person we knew. She was a beautiful person who lived life fully. She left her mark and will always be remembered.
Karan is survived by her loving partner, Rene Richard, step-son, Caleb (Aaliyah), mother, Susan Ulrich, the 5 members of the girl gang, Tracey, Lisa, Heather, Kim and Rachel, dear friends Sue, Brenda and Shelley along with many more that are just too numerous to mention. She is also survived by several beloved cousins and aunts and uncles. Karan was predeceased by her father Richard M. Ulrich.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in the palliative program at the George Dumont Hospital, whose compassion and kindness was very much appreciated. A special thank you to Dr Nicholas Finn and his team at the Oncology Department of the George Dumont Hospital, we are so thankful for every effort that was made and for all the hope that was provided.
Following Karan’s wishes there will be no funeral service, celebration of life or interment.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB (858-1995). Memorial donations may be made to PAWS Moncton or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences for the family may be shared on the Funeral Home Facebook page or at: www.ferguonsfuneralhome.com
