Osk Evelyn Joyce Vidalin
December 3rd, 1927 – April 14th, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother and Amma, Osk Evelyn Joyce Vidalin, on April 14th, 2023, at the age of 95 years.
Born on December 3rd, 1927, Oskie grew up in Riverton, Manitoba, with her two brothers and four sisters, lovingly raised by her parents, Daisy and Manni Jonasson. One of her fondest childhood memories was eagerly waiting at the train station with her siblings to greet visitors. Later in life, while working as a cook’s helper at a fish camp, Oskie met John, who also grew up in Riverton. They were married in 1948 and settled into their home on King Street, where they raised their four children: Patsy, David, Darlene, and Heather. As John worked away, Oskie filled their home with love and laughter, baking fresh cinnamon buns, homemade bread, vinarterta and perogies for her children. Later in life, she found joy in her work as a home care worker, she enjoyed watching curling and spending time with her girls on numerous shopping trips.
Oskie’s love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she showered with hugs, kisses, and cookies. She never missed a phone call on their birthdays and instilled in them the importance of family and gathering for special occasions. Her positive outlook and emphasis on treating others with love and kindness were guiding principles for her loved ones.
Oskie’s love and memory will be forever cherished by her children; David (Patti) Vidalin, Darlene D’Hont (Bruce Hodge), Heather (Greg) Woytowich; grandchildren Michelle (Rob), Heidi (Jason), Elisha, Sarah (Chris), Sterling (Liisu), Corey, Troy (Lindsay), Shaylee (Scott), Aubrey (Chris), Jordan, Evan (Hannah), Dylan (Amber); great grandchildren Kolten (Chloe), Kiera (Yash), Kaylie, Hunter, London, Lincoln, Gray, Maija, Raelynn, Taze, Deacon, Piper, Freyja, Carter, Gunnar, Brody; sisters Shirley-Ann (Johnny) Sigurdson, Sylvia Renaud, Lorna Patterson; as well as many other special nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be met in heaven by her husband John, daughter Pat, son-in-law Dori, parents Daisy and Manni, and special family members Lloyd, Tom, Harvey, Lillian, Kristen, Norman and Jean.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday May 6th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Riverton Community Centre.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital for the care given to Oskie, especially Dr. Filmore, Dr. Ludwig, Angel nurse Donna Wishnowski and the wonderful care over many years from Dr. S. V. Patel.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Riverton Lutheran Church.
