Obituary For Lorna Louise Rowland
We announce the passing of Lorna Louise Rowland. She is resting in the arms of her Lord and Saviour.
Lorna passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, AB April 16, 2023 at the age of 96.
Lorna was born in a log cabin near La Glace, AB on September 20th 1926. She was the 9th child born to Joe and Dorothy Farnsworth. She attended Blooming Valley School in the 1930s and spent her youth helping to keep cattle and farming operations in tack.
As a young adult she traveled many different places for work. In the spring 1946, she ventured to Whitehorse Yukon to work in the mess hall for the Canadian Army. It was there that she met and fell in love with Glenville Roy Ross Rowland and they were married December 23rd, 1946.
Together they went on many adventures, helping Glen’s parents in Ontario, then homesteading in the Peace Country and working in logging camps. In the fall of 1966 they moved to Manning AB, then on to Pine Point NWT in 1968 and then back to the Peace Country in 1974.
Lorna is survived by 8 of her 11 children. Karen Wells, Bonnie Couturier, Lesley Rowland (Donna), Ross Rowland (Gail), Lorne Rowland (Shawna), Leanne Buller (Ray), Marvin Rowland (Dyan), Kory Rowland (Julia), her sister Dorothy Hegland. She is also survived by her 31 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren and a great many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her Mother and Father, Joe and Tilly Farnsworth, her husband Glen, brothers Joseph (Dan), William, Thomas, Johnny, and her sisters Mary, Irene, and Jean. As well as her boys, Doug, Wayne and Blaine and son in law Doug Couturier.
Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 25th at 1 o’clock at Peoples Full Gospel Assembly (11850 108 Street in Grande Prairie, Alberta). Lunch will be served after her service and interment will take place at 5 o’clock at the Gordondale Cemetery.
Officiating will be Paster Cyril Isaac and arrangement of service under the direction of the Bear Creek Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
