Obituary of Zabel Satenig Ashukian
ZABEL (SATENIG) ASHUKIAN
MAY 3, 1930 – MARCH 12, 2022
A PRECIOUS SOUL AND A GENEROUS SPIRIT
Zabel (Satenig) Ashukian passed away suddenly, but peacefully on March 12 surrounded by her children. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Kevork Ashukian, her sister Pumpal Bulgan, and brother Artin Bagatur.
She was deeply beloved by her large family who were blessed to be able to care for her in the last years of her life. She is survived by her children Ahron (Margaret, deceased) (Louise), Cheyenne (Donna), Nazli/Frances (Maurice), Altun/Goldie (Sumeth), Pariz, Kirsan (Barbara), Susie, and Zabel. She leaves behind grandchildren, Mayram, Ahron (Stephanie), Jeremiah (Carla), Shannon, Sarah, Jonathan (Jeanie), Christine (Jay), Steven (Jazmine), Meredith (Sonny), Alyssa, Heather, Stephanie (Giuliano), Matthew, and great grandchildren Madeline, Kayla, Alessandro, Matteo, Farrah, Isaac, Carson, Colton, Ryker, Jamie, Sebastian, Giacomo, and Vienna. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews in both Turkey and Germany.
She arrived in Canada with her husband in 1962 and settled in St. Catharines, Ontario where they were members of the Armenian Church and community center. Her life was devoted to her family and creating a welcoming space for all. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and warmth. She lived courageously and all who knew her were touched by her soul; she will be greatly missed and remembered forever.
Visitation will be held at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Thursday March 17 from 6 to 8 PM with prayers at 7 PM. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM on Friday March 18 at St. Gregory the Illuminator, Armenian Apostolic Church at 49 Carlton Street followed by the interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Reception to follow interment.
