Yvonne Marie Savage March 4th 2022

It is with heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Yvonne Marie Savage (Wandler) who passed away peacefully in Trail on March 4, 2022.
Yvonne was born December 10, 1942, after a harrowing drive down the old Montrose cut off in a snowstorm. To keep everyone safe, her dad Tom, stopped his old model t- ford truck at the top of the hill so her mom Emily and her three older sisters, all under the age of six, could walk part way down the hill. Thankfully they all made it safe and sound. The family later moved to Trail where Yvonne grew up, met, and married her husband, Ken.
Yvonne was predeceased by her beloved husband Ken, an infant brother Eugene, her parents Emily and Tom Wandler, sisters Joan Jacobson and Louise Caputo, sister-in-law Ursula Wandler and brother-in-law Ron Jacobson. She is survived by her sons Stacy (Lisa) and Scott (Ronda), her grandchildren Christopher (Caitlyn) and Nicole (Chris), her great grandson Kennedy, sisters Sheila Mazeppa (Zeke), Judy Gilbank (Ken), Deb Wandler (Al Skakun), brother Gary (Deborah) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Yvonne started her work career as a telephone operator for The British Columbia Telephone Company in 1958 and worked there until her and Ken moved to the coast, where both their children were born. In 1971 they moved back to the area and purchased property in Fruitvale, where they eventually started their business Savage Plumbing and Heating, which Yvonne did the bookkeeping for until Stacy’s retirement two years ago. In later years, Yvonne worked as a lunch hour supervisor at Beaver Valley Middle School, where the students called her Grandma Savage. Even to this day, many of those students, now adults, stopped her to say “Hi, Grandma Savage” and ask her how she was doing.
Yvonne and Ken spent many years off in their camper, up on Kootenay Lake camping with Joan, Ron, Sheila, and Zeke, at Schroeder Creek and later at their place in Proctor where Ken loved to fish.
Yvonne stayed active all through her life, golfing, curling, cross country skiing, walking, and going to bingo, where more often than not she came home with winnings. She was a very artistic crafter, making many beautiful Christmas decorations over the years for her sisters, friends, and family, crocheting, working with ceramics, and creating handcrafted cards, for every occasion. Numerous friends joined Yvonne at her home over the years, where she had an area set up for scrapbooking and card making.
Christmas Eve often brought the Wandler clan together and Yvonne carried on her mom’s tradition of making cabbage rolls and potato salad.
Yvonne was a kind, loving and generous person who will be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved her.
