Obituary of Yvette Van Weelden
Yvette passed away peacefully in her 56th year on September 3, 2022. Beloved wife of Joel Van Weelden. Cherished mom of Benjamin (Claudia), Jillian, Malorie DeBruyne (Zack) and Megan George (Kyle). Loving grandma of Rafael, Adalynn and Arie. Also survived by brother Claus (Manuela), sisters Karen Young (Hugh), Catherine Compton (Steven), Jan Balch (Clare), Julia Veenstra (Doug) and many nieces and nephews. Loved sister-in-law of Jeralyn Enns (David), Alan Van Weelden (Pamela), Patricia Nightingale (Robert), and Susan Van Weelden.
Yvette grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, an honour student at every level and grade eight valedictorian. Settling in Beamsville, she married Joel in 1986 and they built a beautiful life together – their love was an example to everyone who knew them. Yvette loved being a stay-at-home mom and attending every sporting event, recital, school and church program. She considered her children to be her greatest achievement. She was so proud of her kids for the people they are today. And being Grandma was her favourite role yet!
Yvette was a great hostess filling the home with life, love and laughter. The home was always in the middle of the next decorating project. Yvette loved her Benjamin Moore paint chips and her HGTV! She loved organizing family road trips with the kids to Ocean City, North Carolina, Florida or other places where Joel could combine business or use their Holiday Inn points. Floating in any pool, Lake Muskoka or sitting on the beach are cherished memories.
Joel and Yvette’s “empty nest” years were spent traveling together throughout the U.S. and Canada on many business trips. She loved her surf and turf, whether in Boston, New York, Florida and, of course, our second home in Oberlin, Ohio while visiting their Green Circle family. Many weeks were spent working out of the remote office in Anna Maria Island, Florida, her favorite destination. Speaking of Empty Nest, that was the name of her AirBNB for three years where she was a super host to guests from all over the globe. She could make a new friend anywhere! In recent years, Joel and Yvette stayed closer to home, taking much joy in welcoming three grandchildren. A pool date at Grandma’s pool was a special treat for all!
Yvette had a solid yet simple faith in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Going to church was an important part of the family’s routine and our home was filled with Veggie Tales, The Friendship Company, Mary Rice Hopkins, and Amy Grant (especially at Christmas).
She will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her bright smile, hearty laughter and warm personality.
Visitation on September 6, 2022, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Providence Christian Reformed Church, Beamsville. Celebration of Life on September 7, 2022, at 10:00 am at Providence, with a private family interment to be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Tallman Funeral Homes in Vineland. If desired, memorial contributions to Gillian’s Place or Community Care of West Niagara would be appreciated by the family.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yvette

  1. My deepest sympathies are extended to Joel, and the extended family of Yvette. I first met Yvette and her sister Julia at church, but continued to be a part of her life through Joel and Ben when I worked with them. It was always a pleasure to have Yvette at a corporate dinner as her easy conversation making, and laughter always lightened up the table. I know her unwavering support for Joel will make her loss extremely difficult, and I extend both Jennie and my deepest love and sympathy to Joel.
