It is with great sorrow that we have lost a much beloved member of our family. Yee Foo Mah, age 91, passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on July 22, 2022. Yee was born in Hong Kong, the third daughter from a family of 11 children.
She is predeceased by both parents, her older two sisters, and two younger brothers, Wilfred and Luke.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Marian (Raymond); sons, Ernie (Allyson) and Edwin (Petty); and grandchildren, Sophie and Amelie.
Yee spent her childhood living near the beach in Hong Kong. It was there in high school that she met Ken. Their courtship was interrupted by the war and Ken immigrating to Canada to join his family. But Ken was insistent on marrying this beautiful girl and pursued her until finally, she consented and travelled halfway across the world by herself to marry him. Theirs was the first Chinese wedding in Edmonton performed at the Chinese United Church and the whole Chinese community attended. Initially, Yee worked at the family grocery store but later, Ken asked her if she liked flowers. “Well of course, which girl doesn’t?”. Expecting a nice bouquet, instead, he enrolled her in floral design at the Olds College and she later managed their flower shop. Besides being a successful businesswoman, Yee had various hobbies including her garden and orchids. She loved to sew and cooked wonderful meals for the family. Her two grandchildren profess she is the best home cook, always treating them with her exploration of Asian cuisine. Ken says Yee loved to study geography meaning that she loved to travel and together they have traveled the world. She was a gentle soul, a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. We will miss her greatly.
We would like to thank the staff at MacTaggart Retirement Resident Place for taking such good care of her during her final days.
Service will be at Connelly- McKinley, 10011-114 Street NW
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yee Mah 2022..
