We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Wilson Thorne; a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. Wilson passed away peacefully on June 3rd surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by parents Mildred and Edwin Thorne, parents-in-law Regina and Myles Campbell, and sister Lynn. Leaving to mourn the love of his life, Sheila (nee Price), his children Rhonda (Rick), Arlene (Pierre), Sherrell (Mario), Rodney and Darrin (Shelly); his brothers Clayton (Phyllis), Norval (Clare – deceased), sisters Cynthia, Sandra (Jim – deceased) and Gleniss (Paul); his grandchildren, Roxanne (Jamie), Ashley (Colin), Danny (Keisha), Jaclyn (Ryan), Kimberly (Jordan), Kristin (Corey), Stephanie, Danielle, Stefanie (Woolie), Jacques (Alannah), Andre (Jashley), and Amanda (Danny); and his great grandchildren Noah, Nikolas, Aleigha, Mitteo, Jacob, Taylor and Hunter. Also leaving to mourn many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, too numerous to mention.
The family would also like to make special mention of Lydia Evans (Kristin’s mother); and would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Mary Hapgood, who Wilson thought of as another daughter, for the love and care she gave to dad and continues to give to mom.
Thank you to Dr. Morkar, for always being there when we needed her, and the Special Patients Palliative Care Program for always being “on call”.
Wilson was a life-long resident of Torbay. In addition to serving as a councillor in the 1970’s, he also served 8 years as Mayor from 1981 to 1989 and had the distinction of being the Town’s first elected Mayor. He was a proud member of the Teamsters’ Union, serving on the executive during his 30 year career at Concrete Products Limited. After retirement Wilson was a “tireless” hiker and could be found everyday on the trails around Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi with his trademark medium coffee from Tim’s, 2 cream, 1 sweetener!
