Obituary of William Smith
William Roy Smith, of Owen Sound, Ontario, peacefully went to be with his Lord, on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, at the age of 95, after living for several years at the Wenleigh Long-term Care Residence, in Mississauga, Ontario. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 1st, 1926. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Alice Smith, and by his Loving wife of 61 years, Rosella (nee Hiebert). Roy is survived by his four sons: Stephen (late Jo-Ann), Philip (Susan), David and Timothy (Myrna). Beloved grandfather of Stephanie (Marvin), Jeffrey (Sarah), Rebecca (Robbie), Rachel, Abby (Kyle), and fourteen great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Ron (late Diane) and his (late) sister Eileen Rae.
Roy studied for four years at Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta which is where he met his future wife, Rosella. After graduating they married on August 15th, 1952. Not long afterwards they travelled to India and served the Lord as Christian missionaries for eight years. After returning to Canada they continued to serve the Lord in the local churches they attended. Roy was a deacon in every church they served in. Roy was a talented artist, who once made the butter sculpture for the Royal Winter Fair. He often gave “chalk talks” in Sunday school where he would tell a Bible story and simultaneously draw a scene from the story in coloured chalk. Roy spent his entire career in Canada working at the steel company, John T. Hepburn Ltd. In retirement Roy and Rosella moved to Owen Sound where they held weekly worship services at a local nursing home. Roy loved to sing and also sang duets with his wife while she would play the piano. They also enjoyed spending time at the cottage they built in Haliburton.
Friends may call at the South End Baptist Church, 400 – 2nd Avenue South East, Owen Sound on, Saturday March 19th, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Service for William Roy Smith will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Chambers officiating. Interment at a later date in Keward Cemetery, Chatsworth.
