Obituary
WILLIAM ”Bill” FREDERICK MCCULLOCH
Aug 19/1954 – Aug 12/2022
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Bill McCulloch in the Rosetown Hospital. He will be forever remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 45 years, Debbie, his son Benson (Caty) and their sons Bill and Joe, and daughters Trisha (Chris) and Carlyn (Carl). Mourning his loss include sister-in-law Joan McCulloch, brother-in-law Jamie (Elaine) Blazek and brother-in-law Rolly (Susan) Houle as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Florence and George McCulloch, brother Bob McCulloch, mother-in-law Jean Blazek, father-in-law James Blazek, sisters-in-law Cindy Blazek and Susan Houle.
Bill was raised in the town he loved, Rosetown, Sk. Bill enjoyed a fun-filled childhood with his brother and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins close by. His days were filled with riding his bike, playing with friends, delivering newspapers and swimming in the local pool. He experienced a profound loss at the age of 15 when his mother passed away following a lengthy illness. After graduating high school, he completed a Brick and Stone Masonry Course. Bill became a journeyman mason while working in Saskatoon. Soon, Bill and a fellow bricklayer started their own company.
During this time, Bill married his wife Debbie and their son Benson was born. However, the pull of family, friends and the community he loved was growing stronger. Bill, Debbie and Benson moved back to Rosetown where Bill filled his Dad’s shoes of being owner and operator of McCulloch Construction. Bill enjoyed drywalling, bricklaying, and painting in countless homes and businesses in the area.
Soon, daughters Trisha and Carlyn were born and completed their family. Raising his children in this rural community proved to be a wonderful fit for the lifestyle that Bill treasured. He loved having coffee with his buddies every morning before work at the local café, gathering with other young families in town, taking in the kid’s activities, and developing lifelong bonds with many friends.
Bill also welcomed the addition of partners in his children’s lives. Becoming grandfather to Bill and Joe was a highlight in his life. Bill loved interacting with his grandsons, attending their hockey and ball games and just spending time with these joyful kids!
Bill could be described by all who knew him as shy with a sharp but dry sense of humour. He was a loyal friend and family man and wasn’t afraid to be brutally honest. He loved the simple things like visiting with friends and family over a beverage, being a quality construction worker, cooking a delicious meal, reading the newspaper and cheering on the Riders. He hated dancing, technology that didn’t work, being in the spotlight, and fresh tomatoes.
Bill’s passing has left a huge void in the lives of so many individuals. His expertise in the fields of drywalling, bricklaying and painting was evident in every job he did.
A memorial service will be held at the Rosetown United Church on Thursday, Aug 18 at 11:00 am followed by a lunch in the church basement. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Alex Ositis Foundation Box 1251 Rosetown, Sk S0L 2V0 that assists with healthcare programs in the Rosetown community.
