William (Willie)’s Obituary
On Monday, January 31st, 2022, our hearts were broken and lives were forever changed when we, the family of the late William (Willie) Thomas Seaward, announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques at the age of 78 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, He was the son of the late Thomas and Cora Seaward (nee Hardy). He was also predeceased by his infant daughter; Francene Courtney, brothers; Brian Seaward, Thomas Seaward, Alex Seaward, George Seaward, sisters; Connie Seaward, Sadie Seaward along with his father and mother-in-law; James and Annetta Courtney (nee Strickland).
He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories his devoted wife of 41 years Louise Seaward (nee Courtney). He was also leaves behind his daughters; Rona (Corey) Osmond of Port aux Basques, NL, Michelle (Vaughn) Seaward of Cape Ray, NL, sons; Dwayne (Wendy) Seaward of Conception Bay South, NL, Rex (Noreen) Seaward of Port aux Basques, NL, grandchildren; Brittany, Ethan, Hannah, Calista and Adam.
Willie will forever remain the hearts of his brothers; Harrison (Pauline) Seaward of Port aux Basques, NL, Ross (Audrey) Seaward of St. John’s, NL, Dave (Laura) Seaward of Sydney Mines, NS, sisters; Doreen (David) Halfyard of St. John’s, NL, Linda (Dennis) Organ of St. Catharines, ON, Betty (Werner) Roloff of Gokels, Germany, brother-in-law; Jack (Wanda) Courtney, sisters-in-law; Joyce Seaward, Mary Seaward, and Brenda (Calvin) Strickland. Willie also leaves behind a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends whom all held a special place in his heart.
Willie worked with Marine Atlantic for 42 years. When he wasn’t washing and waxing his truck, he could be seen around town helping with his carpentry skills, driving taxi and even a dump truck in his younger days. He loved Newfoundland music and time in the country with his brothers, although his fond love of animals kept him from being much of a trigger man for the hunt. Willie was wonderful man who’s sole purpose in life was to take care of his family and help anybody in the community who needed it.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paula Walsh, St. John’s, who helped Willie through the early stages of ALS and getting him in front of specialists for diagnosis. Dr. Husni for providing medical care in Port aux Basques. The staff at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Centre and Public Health at Bar Haven. A special thanks to Cheryl Power of the ALS Society of NL for the care and medical device support throughtout his entire illness. Also, The Terra Nova Veterinary Clinic, St. John’s, for being the provincial sponsor of the walk for ALS and years of continued support.
In keeping with Willie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Joan Chaisson. Interment will follow at Wesley United Cemetery, Trans Canada Highway. Due to the latest Government regulations your Newfoundland VaxPass, photo ID, masks and social distancing are required for entry to the visitation. Private church service will be by invitation only. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in memory of Willie can be made to the family or the ALS Society of Newfoundland, 3 Herald Avenue, Corner Brook, NL A2H 4B8.
