Wilson, William E. (Scott)
March 7, 1945 – June 1, 2022.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of a much-loved husband, dad and grandpa, at Stratford General Hospital.
Scott was a devoted husband to Janet since August 1969, and a loving dad to Megan (Paul) and Erin (Neil). He was so proud of his grandsons, Aidan and James. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Marion. He will be missed by his brother Ross, his sisters-in-law Nancy and Christine, his nieces and nephews, and many friends – some of whom he has had since childhood.
Scott was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan before moving to Kingston to attend Law School at Queen’s University. It was at Queen’s that he met Janet at an orientation week dance. They married two years later and moved to Toronto and Stratford before settling in Mitchell in 1973.
Scott was an avid reader, an accomplished genealogist, and a competitive bridge player. He loved a beautiful meal, but almost as much as the food, he loved the experience of dining with friends and family. He learned to cook following his retirement and loved nothing more than to feed “his people.” One of his greatest passions was travel. Over the course of their marriage, he and Janet visited more than 50 countries including Australia, China, Iceland, Chile, and South Africa.
He was a man who lived his values and walked his talk. He contributed thousands of hours to community service clubs, the Mitchell Library Board, the provincial NDP riding association, and a heritage effort to save the Hicks House Hotel in Mitchell.
We thank Perth County Paramedic Services, and the staff in the Emergency and Critical Care departments at Stratford General Hospital for their respectful, compassionate care of Scott. Special thanks to nurses Shaylyn and Holly for the exceptional care of all of us on his final day.
A reception will be held for family and friends on Saturday, June 11 from 3 – 5 pm at Lockhart Funeral Home Reception Centre (116 Montreal Street, Mitchell, ON). Donations to The Local Community Food Centre, an organization for which Scott volunteered for several years, would be appreciated.
