Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William “Sarge” Richard Reid announce his passing on Sunday October 2, 2022 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Sarge was born on October 7, 1936 in Saint John and was the son of the late Richard and Irene (Cave) Reid.
Sarge was a Police Officer with the City of Saint John for many years until his retirement. He was past president of the NB Rifle Association and was a skilled shooter. That skill allowed him to be a part of the Canadian Olympic Games shooting team. His last year was spent at Ridgewood where he enjoyed friendships made and many card games.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Lois “Bunny” (Blizzard) Reid; son Aaron (Barbara) Reid; daughter Jennifer Scarlett; grandchildren Lilly and Kalie Scarlett, Bryce, Brock and Cody Reid as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather Harry Hopey; brothers Robert and Lloyd and his sister Barb.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing for the wonderful care Sarge received during his stay with you.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland. By request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
