Varner, William
“Bill” Matheson – 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday,
January 22, 2022 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary due to complications of
heart disease and diabetes. He was born in Truro, at the
Annex– the first son of William Edward and Dorothy Edna
(Matheson) Varner.
Bill was a loving
husband for 59 years to Leah Lynne (Sharp), originally of Debert. Also
survived by their two children, Shannon Lynn (Andrew) Thiesen and
their children, Peter (Robyn) and their daughter, Rose; Timothy and
Abigail. Also by their son, William Jason (Danette) Varner and their
sons, Jacob, Joseph and Joshua. In addition, he is survived by his
brother, Alex (Lauretta) Varner and sister, Gwen (Jack) Aitchison as
well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill began his career
with the Bank of Nova Scotia and Purina Feeds before joining
Stephens-Keddy Real Estate and other real estate agencies in the Truro
area for over a 45 year career – ending with Coldwell-Banker
in 2016. Throughout his life he has had an entrepreneurial spirit and
was always a dreamer.
In his younger years,
he was quite the tap dancer – winning local competitions. Bill enjoyed
spending time in his garden; growing a variety of dahlias.
He loved raising chickens and was interested in anything to
do with livestock; horses, in particular. He enjoyed looking at
old-fashioned tractors, watching old Western movies, especially with
Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, nature and wildlife, in general. Dad loved
(too much) to eat Mum’s homemade biscuits, pickles and just
about anything else she would make.
Bill also enjoyed
travelling to PEI and New England, driving around backroads with Leah,
looking at farmland, scenic views and anything else interesting to
look at. He enjoyed reading books on Nova Scotia heritage and history
and listening to Old-Time music.
Arrangements have been
