Obituary
William Howard (Howie) Oig
Peacefully on January 3, 2022, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Howie left us to join his family and friends that went before him. Howie has now joined his mother Jean, father Bill, brother Jimmy and grandparents Lawrence and Margret Smith along with many other family and friends.
Howie leaves behind his sister Susan, brothers John (June) and Doug along with his nieces Pam and Laura, nephews James and Clayton, sister-in-law Debbie and stepsisters Rain, Stacy, Billy and Bobby.
Howie lived in Gimli where he had a second family and many friends. The staff at his home in Gimli were his family and provided a loving, caring home for Howie. Kathy was a special friend to Howie and took him on many outings and created wonderful memories that Howie cherished and often told stories of his adventures. We thank all the staff for the wonderful care they provided Howie and the loving, caring environment they provided to make Howie a true home.
Howie was truly loved by all that knew him. Howie spent a lot of time in his younger years at his grandparent’s house on Taylor Avenue. He would go see the rabbits in their shed and spend a lot of time playing with the rabbits. He would then go into the house for coffee and cookies with grandma and grandpa before going home. Howie loved his music and would sing along with his favourite Johnny Cash records and his all-time favourite “Please come to Boston”.
Howie lived a full life with many fond memories mainly due to his family and friends that loved him deeply and showed him care, compassion and kindness. Howie’s unique and wonderful personality made you smile; he always had a hearty handshake and loved his coffee. Howie will be truly missed.
The family would like to thank Doctor Gillette and nursing staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for the wonderful care they provided to Howie in his final days. We also thank Gilbart’s Funeral Home for their service and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Howie’s life will be held this June to allow for his family and friends to gather. We love you Ramblin’ boy, save us some coffee, until we meet again, your family.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
