It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of William Edward Fleming in Sudbury on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
Son of the late Edward and Olive (nee Ledsworth) Fleming.
Predeceased by his wife Marie Fleming (nee Murphy).
Father of Bill Jr., John (Bernadette/Jordyn), David and Daniel (Tammi).
Loving grandfather of Matthew (Taylor), Tyler, Mallory (Nicholas), Montana (Darrell) and the late Christopher, who has welcomed dad at the Pearly gates.
Dear brother of Milton (Shirley-predeceased), Don (Virginia-predeceased) and his loving sisters, the late Shirley Boudreau (Phil-predeceased) and the late Joan Boudreau (Ray-predeceased).
The siblings maintained a unique bond that was evident every time they were together and each has shed tears and felt intense sorrow after the passing of the others. To uncles Milton and Don, you carry the torch proudly as we know you will for your remaining years, which we hope will be many, until it is passed down to the younger generation.
William (Bill) was born in Sudbury and was a terrific artist/drawer, who was asked as a teenager to draw for the Sudbury Star toward the end of WWII. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy circa 1946, serving on the Tribal-class destroyers HMCS Nootka and HMCS Haida and the Majestic-class aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent. He went on to work as an electrician, then for many years as a Manager with the LCBO, from which he retired in 1989. He called Long Lake home, having lived in Pennala subdivision since 1958, often regaling us with stories of the Navy, and entertaining many of our friends who would often ask if our dad was home so they could have a few laughs.
We will miss you dad.
At Williams request, there will be no funeral visitation or service.
The family will be announcing an intimate gathering of friends and family in his honour, which will take place this summer. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
