William Bill Vis July 27 2022

Obituary
William (Bill) A. Vis – June 2, 1933 – July 27, 2022
Bill passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022 at Eastholme, Home for the Aged, in Powassan, Ontario.
Bill will be greatly missed and forever in the hearts of wife Renée (nee Leduc) Vis, his children, and grandchildren; Greg (Sam, Ryan, and their mother Nancy), Phil and Wendy (Nathan and Danielle), Michelle and Arthur (Hannah and Gabrielle), Chantal and Jérôme (Gwen and Clara).
He is also survived and will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Rita (Bob), Gertrude (Geza), Margaret (Steve) and predeceased by his four brothers (Hank and Lisa, John and Resi-surviving, Harry and Mary, and Peter and Marlene-surviving) and his parents. Bill will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews from both his and Renée’s side of the family.
Bill was born next to a windmill, along a canal in Ter Aar, Netherlands, and his family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1950. He had a successful business career starting at Ogilvie Mill’s, with numerous positions moving between Winnipeg, Calgary, Montreal, and Georgetown. In 1976, Bill became co-owner of Aunt’s Mays City Bakery in North Bay, where the family finally settled. He was very proud that City Bakery grew and thrived, supplying a large part of Northern Ontario with baked goods. In his retirement, Bill used his extensive business knowledge to help individual entrepreneurs plan and develop their business plans. Throughout his career, he forged some of his closest friends, with whom he maintained cherished life-long connections.
Bill married his beloved Renée in 1961. They shared 61 happy years together, spending many enjoyable summers with family and friends at their cottage on 31 Mile Lake in Quebec. He was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing and listening to a variety of country music. Bill loved to engage in lively conversation and debates on any topic, always with knowledge and wit. He will be remembered for his sense of humour.
Visitation will be held at the Pro- Cathedral of the Assumption in North Bay, Saturday, August 6th, at 9 a.m., followed by a mass at 10 a.m. and reception. There will also be a celebration of life on August 20th, in Maniwaki, Quebec, followed by the interment.
Our family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received at Eastholme.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eastholme for the Aged or the North Bay Regional Health Centre (Minimally Invasive Surgery Fund) @ nbrhcfoundation.ca.

  1. Bill was always a pleasure to be around. As kids, my siblings (Bryana, Chris, Kyle) and I spent a lot of time
Playing cards by the lake with Bill and his family. Bill always had every trick up his sleeve. He will be fondly remembered for his time spent up here at 31 Mile Lake. Condolences to all of his family, may he Rest In Peace on the shores of 31. Love the Singhal Family.
