William Bill Slaney 2022

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us
back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love
shows us the way.”
Our world will never be the same again. With great sadness
and broken hearts, we mourn the sudden passing of our husband, father,
grandfather, brother and friend, William (Bill) Slaney, of Dunville,
NL on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the age of 76 years.
William is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Loretta
(Broderick) of Gambo and brothers Cyril and Kevin Slaney
(Gambo).
William will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years,
Loretta; children: Nadine (Karl), Cory (Angie) and Paul (Joanne);
grandchildren, his pride and joy whom he adored, William, Jonathan,
Talon, Logan, Ethan, Jack and Sophie; brothers Jimmy (Barb), Harold
(Claudette), Ron (Dorothy); sisters Lorraine (Tony), Geraldine (Rex);
Sister-in-law, Eileen Sweetland (Alex) and brothers-in -law, Gerard
(Hattie), Ben Newman; as well as many relatives and friends,
especially his hunting buddies Steve, Pats and Len
Hickey.
William was the oldest child, born in 1946 and raised in
Gambo. As a young man, he ventured out to Labrador to work with IOC,
then finally moved to Dunville, to work in the ERCO/Albright and
Wilson plant in Long Harbour, where he worked until the plant closed.
After a short time in Quebec and IOC, he finally returned home to run
his own successful business, Midway Market/North Atlantic in Placenta
until he retired; then the real fun began.
The family would like to thank Dr. Power, Dr. Hiba and Dr.
Rochel and the amazing staff at Placentia Health Care, and Powers
Ambulance, who treated our dad with thoughtful and sincere
care.
Our dad had a generous, selfless heart; he loved his family
fiercely and was so proud of us all. His 7 grandchildren were the
apples of his eye and he took every opportunity to share their
successes. There wasn’t any prouder grandpa on this planet!
Family was his passion and he spent every minute creating
new memories with us. We have no regrets in life as love and laughter
filled our home. He gave us so many things in life – love, advice,
humour and most of all, he showed what’s really important at
the end of the day, each other. He was the most hard working man who
would do without, so we could have what we needed. He took joy from
the simple things in life, a beautiful sunset, full moon, early
morning fishing and hunting trip, sail on his pontoon boat, bike trip
up ‘over the road,’ sharing his ‘back in
the day’ stories, a game of cards and spending time with
family and friends on Gambo Pond.
Dad we don’t know how to live life without you, you
were our confidant, our friend and our biggest fan. Everything we do
in life, we will do to make you proud. We want to carry on in your
footsteps and make sure that your legacy lives on forever. We love
you.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral
Home, Placentia. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6-9 pm,
and Thursday 2-4pm and 6-9pm. Funeral to take place at
10:30am on Friday, November 4th at St. Anne’s Church,

“You gave us enough love to last us a lifetime
and for this we are truly grateful and
blessed.”

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of William Bill Slaney 2022..
