——–It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Ruthven Snider on July 26, 2022. Bill passed peacefully with his family at his side, at Andy’s House Hospice in Port Carling, ON. He was trusted and loved by all that knew him.
Bill is survived by his adoring wife Sheri, his daughters Nancy, and Michelle, his sister Patricia (Michael) of B.C., as well as the Cleary family of Gravenhurst and B.C., the Robinson and Steele families of Florida and Burlington, and the Penwell family of Bracebridge.
Bill spent most of his career in the soft drink business, becoming co-owner and President of Brown’s Beverages and Muskoka Springs Water Company in Gravenhurst. He truly Loved every day he worked.
Bill and his kids enjoyed many years weekends at the beach near their home boating or spending time at the boathouse. He enjoyed 16 years wintering in St. Cloud, Florida with Sheri. Many memories with all their amazing neighbours and friends. Bill was constantly volunteering with park duties and helping others, as well as supporting the local VFW post and AMVETS, riding motorcycles to raise funds for charity.
Bill was known as the unofficial “Mayor” of wherever he was due to his fun loving and welcoming manner…offering to help wherever they landed, volunteering at the Legion Posts in the towns where he and Sheri stopped during their 5 years of RVing. His love of the outdoors grew with the many years he spent with fellow brothers of the 3 Ought Hunt Club, hunting and snowmobiling for over 40 years.
Bill is an honourary life member of the Royal Canadian Legion with over 50 years of dedication to both the Gravenhurst and Port Carling Legion branches. He is affectionately known as “the Lawn Boy”, “Uncle Billy”,or ” Sweet William” at the Port Carling Legion branch 529. He will be missed by the attendees at the weekly “Morrow” Board meeting in Gravenhurst.
He was a true gentleman and a genuine friend to all.
The Snider family would like to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Kensley at the MAHC site in Bracebridge. Andy’s House Hospice was especially thoughtful in caring for Bill’s needs and those of the family.
The family would also like to thank the Field of Greens family in Port Carling, for all their generosity, love, care, and support to the entire Snider family during this trying time.
An 80th birthday celebration of Bill’s life, his “Billism’s” and everything Bill, will be held October 1, 2022 at the Port Carling Community Center. Memorial donations to Andy’s House would greatly appreciated.
