With broken hearts, we announce the passing of a much loved husband, father, poppy, relative and friend at his home in Ferryland on July 19, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family.
Mourning his loss and left with loving memories; his wife Doris; daughter, Sheri (John Waterman) and son, Michael (Margaret-Anne nee Ryan); two precious granddaughters, Hannah and Heidi Kavanagh of Mount Pearl, brother Bernard Kavanagh (Harriett) and his sister, Sadie (Ron) Kenny.
Bill is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Dolly O’Keefe (James-dec.) and Evelyn Power (Harold- dec.), brothers Leo (Suzy- dec.) and Junior (Shirley). Also, his parents-in-law Hugh & Esther White, brother in-law Michael White, sister in-law Maureen White and Clara Kavanagh. Bill also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws.
Bill was born to Elizabeth Brushett and Alphonsus Kavanagh in 1945. He grew up in the community of Ferryland with his brothers and sisters after the loss of his mother at a young age. In 1973 he married Doris White and together they had two children, Michael and Sheri. Their doors were always open to family and friends. Bill enjoyed socializing , having fun and at their boxing day parties he loved to have a good time and get the music going. He was the “spark” in our lives.
Through the years, Bill was an integral part of the sports community of Ferryland, playing and coaching softball and hockey. He was always a community man, very proud of the local athletic and music talents. Bill was very humbled at the Ferryland Flyers Hockey/Softball 50th Anniversary in 2019 in which he received recognition for his contribution to youth athletics.
He spent many years farming and selling his produce all along the shore and then later working at construction in St. John’s. Even in his later years he maintained a small vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing this with his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his dedicated care worker Christine Walsh for her care and companionship over the past six years.
We are also grateful for the excellent service provided to Bill over the years by the local Medical Clinic’s Doctors and Nurse Practitioners especially Alison Keay, BNP. To the Community Public Health Nurses, especially Michelle Rossiter and to Pharmacist Katie Boland and her staff, thank you. To Dr. Peter Morry, family friend, and to Dr. Randy Hart, thank you. Also to Quality Home Support Agency and to Mary Rossiter.
Sincere appreciation to family and friends who have always been there to lend a helping hand, kept in touch, called, visited and did many favors for Bill.
