William Bill Macon Gordon May 10 1934 August 11 2022 (age 88)

Obituary
After a brief illness, Bill passed peacefully on August 11, 2022, surrounded by his immediate family in a circle of love. Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Wells-Gordon, his daughters Kristy and Kari (Warren MacLeod), his granddaughters Iona (Charlie) and Skye (Zach) and their daughter, his beloved great-granddaughter, Islay. He will be missed by Carol’s children Stephen (Emanuel), Cameron (Elaine) and their children Seren and Hendry, and Cathy (David) and her children Liam and Catie. Bill is pre-deceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane (Read). Born in 1934 in Chatham, Ontario, and growing up in Toronto, Bill was the third son of Beatrice and Earl Gordon. In 1952 Earl purchased Gordon Boat Works and relocated his family to Bobcaygeon. Little did Bill know it but the girl with the prettiest eyes he’d ever seen had also noticed him, and after a chance encounter on a cold and snowy Peterborough sidewalk, Mary Jane Read agreed to a first date and magic happened. When his father succumbed to cancer, Bill bought and renovated the Boat Works and together with Mary Jane created Gordon Yacht Harbour, one of the premier marinas along the Trent Severn Waterway. Bill was a skilled woodworker who specialized in restoring antique boats. An avid sports fan, Bill coached local minor hockey and played for the Buckhorn Old Timers. With his youthful countenance he often had to prove he was old enough to play hockey in the seniors’ league. Eventually Bill sold the Marina and embarked on another adventure, Real Estate. Bill started his own Brokerage, Stonegate Real Estate and housed it in the Read family home which he had lovingly restored. Bill was a true family man; his wife, children and grandchildren were the most important thing in his life. Sadly, Mary Jane’s Alzheimer’s robbed them of their retirement dream to travel and see the world. Always faithful and loyal, Bill spent years caring for her and then visiting her daily, holding hands while they sat together on the patio at Case Manor watching the boats go by. After mourning Mary Jane, Bill met and fell in love with Carol Wells who brought laughter and joy back into his life. The two of them travelled to many counties, had wonderful adventures and enjoyed many happy years together. A consummate gentleman, who was kind and loving and accepting of all he met, Bill will be missed by many. His family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses and specialists involved in his care. As per Bill’s wishes a family graveside service will be followed by a celebration of life in the near future.
