Wilfred Douglas Crowther passed away peacefully on Friday January 28, 2022, in his 87th year: beloved husband of the late Kristina Crowther (nee Schwarz); devoted father of Doreen Korcok (Rev. Dr. Thomas) and Michele Bossi (Kevin); cherished grandfather of Andrew (Katherine), Mark, Alexander, Nicholas, and William; and great-grandfather of Milo, Lydia, and Bonnie. He is predeceased by his sister Madeline Irvin and brother William. Douglas was born to Erie (nee Buckmaster) and Wilfred Bridgewater Crowther of Niagara-on-the-Lake, baptized at Christ Church Anglican, McNab, and raised on the Crowther family’s fruit farm on Lakeshore Road. He worked at General Motors in St. Catharines where he met Kristina over a shared love of VW Karmann Ghia sports cars. As a faithful and active founding member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in St. Catharines, Douglas served on many boards and committees. He also served as treasurer of the St. Catharines Haiti Lutheran Mission Society and was a long-time trustee of Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary. A gentle soul, Douglas will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, especially to many seminary and Brock University students who attended Resurrection Lutheran Church. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the wonderful health care workers at Bayshore HealthCare, CarePartners, ParaMed St. Catharines Home Health Care, St. Elizabeth Health Care, Emerald Retirement Residence in Niagara Falls, Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre, and Niagara Health – St. Catharines Site.
A private funeral has taken place with an interment at Christ Church, McNab. Arrangements entrusted to MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Charitable donations in remembrance of Douglas may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, or Community Support Services of Niagara.
